Please Go Away Experience:
Faroe Islands Founder's Trip

May 13 - 22, 2022

The Faroe Islands are just a short flight from Iceland, yet they're way off the standard traveller's radar. Whilst this small country can take you back centuries with it's cozy villages and farming culture, be ready for some highspeed adventures and fun outdoor activities on this 5-day adventure tour.

Trip Overview:
'Faroe Islands Founder's Trip

Settled by Norsemen in the 7th century this is a 'tilted' archipelago, its eastern shores sloping into the frigid ocean and its western coastline rising up in dramatic cliffs, a mix of green arcing fells, craggy basalt protrusions home to puffins, guillimots and the world's largest colony of storm petrels. See a waterfall empty straight into the Atlantic. Sail beneath 700 m sea cliffs and be tossed around like a cork. But to see it at its most wild, you need to walk some of its 23 designated hiking trails. Do this, and getting marooned will never have felt so very proper.

This short tour of the Faroes takes you out the bird cliffs of Mykines, the beautiful village of Saksun with its natural amphitheatre of cliffs and the village of Gjógv. You will enjoy the old world charm of Tórshavn and relax in the evening, visiting lively local pubs and restaurants.

Hidden Gems Evening Boat Orientation - 6:00 PM

Hidden gems is about showing our own favorite spots, which are off the beaten track from the standard path. Expect to get an introduction to areas we think are cool, local, and where you get a great a sense of what the life in Copenhagen is all about. We will either take a southern route or Northern route depending on what is going on in the harbor at your specific departure day. There will be a voluntarily option during the route to stop and get out of the boat to explore.

The harbor in Copenhagen is undergoing rapid change, from an industrial harbor to recreational space open to everyone living in t e city. During the summer months it acts as the main nerve binding the city together and attracting numerous water-based activities in the process. You will see how this is folds out with Kayaks passing by and happy Danes jumping into the water. We will point out our favorite places and hidden gems, whether you are looking a place for having an afternoon beer in the sun, a relaxed morning coffee, or simply and area to relax away from it all.

As we explore the upcoming areas away from the inner part of the city you will see how former industrial buildings are being transformed into new spaces, where new and old are mixed in new architectural structures. Some of these are designed by famous architects like Bjarke Ingels and some by new upcoming talents. You will get an understanding of how design and living play and essential role for the new development of Copenhagen and an essential part of the Danish lifestyle.

The drive to the harbour takes ca. 45mins, and then it is a further 45min boat journey to the island. On arrival, we will take a guided walk to Mykineshólmur, which is connected to the main island by a wooden footbridge over a 35 meter deep gorge and ends with spectacular views from the lighthouse. We will be walking directly through the Puffin colony, so expect "close encounters of the bird kind" and many photo opportunities.

We'll be back in Torshavn by 6:30 this evening.

It will be a 15 minute drive to the start of our walking tour, past Mannafelsdalur, the site of a bloody Viking battle 700 years ago where mounds of grass still grow with a red hue, said to be the blood of the slain Viking rebels. In the distance, the NATO radar listening station nestled high above the Faroese landscape reminds us of more modern conflict.

We will soon be greeted by panoramic and truly breath-taking views overlooking Vágoy and Trøllkonufingur. We then walk over the ridge to an open landscape with lake views at Vatnsdalur and down to Norðadalur, with spectacular views of the islands Hestoy and Koltur, where we will pause for Faroese delicacies and refreshments, before returning to Tórshavn.

In the afternoon, we'll enjoy a 1,5h horse-back riding tour suited for everyone.
